Labor Day/National Leadership Day

Today offers several reasons to celebrate. Being the first Monday of September, Americans are celebrating Labor Day. Many workers are appreciating a day to take a break, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy some of the fruits of their labor.

This year the holiday falls on September 4th, which is also National Leadership Day. This day take a few minutes to think about the leaders in your life that have inspired you. Which leaders have been role models over the course of your career?

We know that bosses and leaders are not the same thing. A boss is a person placed in authority. A leader is one who inspires you to progress. A true leader is one who doesn’t have to demand respect, because they have earned it from others. Ideally, your boss is also a true leader, who isn’t just concerned with you meeting your work deadlines, but also encouraging you to meet your goals.

As you enjoy a little break today and consider what you have in front of you this coming week, take a few minutes to also think about the leaders in your life. Think about your own leadership role. What kind of impact are you making as a leader?
