National Live Creative Day

Today, September 14th, is the day to embrace your creativity. Today is National Live Creative Day. Write a poem, sketch a drawing, play an instrument.

We all have creative ability. It’s just a matter of finding it. Don’t let fear and comparing yourself to others hold you back. Using your imagination to escape the stress of the day does not mean you have to be perfect. Painting a scene of a tree in your backyard does not have to be good enough to hang in a fine arts studio. If the painting makes you happy when you look at it and remember how it gave you a little bit of peace while you enjoyed an afternoon on your back porch, that is worthwhile. Your journal writing may never hit the New York Times Bestseller list, but if it allows you to put your thoughts and feelings on paper so you can go back and reflect on them, you in fact do have a prized writing.

Self-doubt can be an easy trap. Comparing ourselves to others to determine our self-worth will steal joy in our life. Try something new and see how it goes. Pick up something from the past that perhaps you tried but put down when you thought you weren’t good enough. Perhaps that old guitar is tucked away in the attic waiting for you to give it a go.

You never know if you have a talent at something till you try. You never know if it will give you pleasure until you lay the self-doubt down while picking up that paintbrush, that pen, or that musical instrument. Perhaps you will find a hidden talent and new direction in your career. Perhaps you’ll just find a nice way to pass the evening and escape from the stress of the day. As long as you find enjoyment, it is worth it.
