How do you share your talent? Today, September 18th, is Hug a Greeting Card Writer Day. We celebrate those writers who give us the words to our feelings for another. They help us express our feelings to someone special in our lives for a special occasion. They use their talents to help us provide a smile to a child on their birthday, or to help celebrate the engagement of a loving couple. Their talent helps us express to a grieving loved one that we share in their pain.
We all have talents. How are you using your talent to help others? Your special talent may very well be central to your career. However, using a talent to help others doesn’t necessarily have to be part of your career.
Perhaps you have a talent for storytelling and can entertain friends with stories at a party. You can use that same talent to give someone that is struggling a story to reflect on, something that can help them remember that it’s going to be okay.
Perhaps you have a talent for woodworking. You may have chosen to be a woodworker as a profession. Then again, you may instead choose to use your talent to make beautiful pieces of art for a couple buying their first home. You may use your talent to create a beautiful rocking chair for someone special to enjoy while sitting on their porch on a beautiful autumn day.
We all have various talents, and in our careers, we will use at least some of those talents. However, that one talent that you really enjoy may or may not be a part of your career. If it is, great! However, for that special talent that gives you pleasure and helps you bring enjoyment or comfort to those around you, don’t measure its importance on how much money it builds in your bank account. Don’t put it aside because it doesn’t bring great monetary wealth. Measure its importance instead on the amount of joy it brings to you and those around you.
