Today, September 20th, is National Gibberish Day. Today is the day to send out a memo to your coworkers that makes absolutely no sense. Strike up a conversation in the breakroom with someone that is confusing and doesn’t convey a real message.
We can have fun with this idea today. However, there may be times we feel like some directions we get from leadership are gibberish. Perhaps a new process is being rolled out for your department, but the communication is poorly done. Your team may feel like you’re trying to make sense of gibberish to determine what is expected of you.
Communication is vital for leadership. A good leader needs to have the ability to not only see the direction for the organization, but to also convey that direction properly to others. If members of the organization perceive any communication as gibberish, it is imperative that the leadership ensures that the messaging is fine tuned to increase understanding. Leaders cannot lead into the unknown, they need to provide the goal in understandable terms.
Today we can have fun and see how much we can confuse our peers with gibberish in our messaging. Let’s use this fun day to remember why clear communication is so important for an organization to be successful.
