Try Something Bold

Today, pull out the garlic, the heavy spices, anything that can give a hint to others in the next room what is cooking. Cook with boldness, well outside your comfort zone. Today, November 8th, is Cook Something Bold Day.

It is easy to get into a nice routine in life, including in our kitchen. This isn’t a bad thing. These routines can help us stay on track through the week. It helps us prioritize, completing what needs to be done first. Routines can help us with budgeting. For example, meal planning can prevent breaking the budget for a sudden urge for steak before payday.

However, it is also important to remember that life is short. There are times when we should enjoy a small break from the routine. Instead of driving to work, perhaps walk to the office one day (if the distance isn’t too far.) If the budget allows, consider ordering a small dessert the next time you are out with friends.

Today, instead of the usual quick meal between meetings, consider putting a little extra garlic in your pasta dish. Maybe enjoy some curry chicken with rice for lunch instead of a chicken sandwich. Pull out a recipe book you haven’t read in awhile and find an idea for a bold dish. Consider searching the Internet for a spicy dish that is completely out of your normal meal plan.

While you’re looking for that special bold dish for today, maybe even think about some other area in your life where you can add in some variety. Is there a dance class you have thought about taking, but wasn’t sure? Why not give it a try? Is there a job opportunity that you weren’t sure about applying for? Why not check it out?

It is always good to plan. It is always good to keep our health in mind when considering a weekly meal plan. Today, however, consider finding a meal that fits in with your budget and provides some great nutritional value, but still breaks you out of the normal routine. Who knows, you may stumble upon a dish that will become part of your weekly meal planning more often.
