Today, January 2, is World Introvert Day. Today is the day for introverts to enjoy a day to themselves, past all the holiday celebrations the past couple of weeks.
Introverts are often misunderstood. While we do enjoy being with friends and family, an environment surrounded by people can feel draining. We are more than likely to have a great idea for a new process when we are working away from the noise. A quiet time to ourselves helps us recharge. While extraverts like to wind down with a group of friends after a stressful day, introverts often will relish going for a walk alone in the park, or a quiet evening at home enjoying a delightful book.
There are several great articles available online to help explain the difference between introverts and extraverts. If you are an introvert, perhaps reading one of these articles will help you see that there is nothing wrong with you, that you are just wired a little different from your extravert coworkers. If you are an extravert, consider reading one of these articles to help you understand why your introverted friend is not quick to say yes to going out for dinner after a long work week.
Today, if you are an introvert, embrace this day to celebrate you being you. Enjoy time with your friends, but also remember there is nothing wrong with cutting that time a little short to go home and recharge with an enjoyable book and hot cup of tea.
