Celebrating You Being You

Today, January 12th, is Kiss a Ginger Day. Today is the day to kiss your favorite redhead. This is also a good reminder to accept your uniqueness, rather than trying to blend into the crowd.

History has not always been kind to redheads. Centuries ago, redheads were accused of witchcraft, simply because they were different. No facts, no questioning the reasoning behind the argument, just accepting that because others said it, it must be so.

Redheads no longer worry about being falsely accused of witchcraft. In fact, now people will dye their hair to appear as redheads. Over time, people finally saw that being born with red hair should not condemn that person to unsubstantiated accusations.

If only this attitude could spread to other physical features of people, such as skin color, height, etc. If only people could remember the old phrase “You can’t judge a book by the cover.”

People should not jump to conclusions of others simply because of what they look like. They should also accept themselves. There is nothing wrong with someone dying their hair to achieve a fresh look, but they should still feel comfortable with their natural hair color. There is nothing wrong with wearing makeup, but one should also feel comfortable without it.

Do not be ashamed of what God gave you at birth. Just like snowflakes hold unique patterns, you are unique in the sea of humanity. Let us celebrate each other’s distinctiveness. Today, start with kissing your favorite redhead, and telling them they are beautiful just as they are.
