Embracing Lifetime Learning

Today’s post is inspired by today’s quote in my Franklin planner.

  • “Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects.” – Will Rogers

We will run across people in our lives who claim to know it all. They hold an air of arrogance as they proceed to impart their profound knowledge to those unfortunately within hearing distance. They have heard it all, they have seen it all.

In life, no matter how many degrees a person has, and no matter how many letters come after their name on professional letterhead, there is always something one can learn. A lawyer can always learn something from others, especially in areas not involving the law. For that matter, a lawyer can always learn something new from other lawyers. Doctors can always learn something new from other doctors, as well as accountants, mechanics, plumbers, any profession in life. We can always learn from someone else in our profession, and we can certainly learn from those more experienced in fields in which we have little to no experience.

Remember we are on a lifelong quest to learn, and we shouldn’t be quick to judge someone else for not holding that same knowledge. Not everyone has the same background. Be generous to share what you know, but share with kindness, and have a willingness to learn from others at the same time.

No matter how much you think you know, there is always something you can learn. While you may be an expert in one field, there are other fields in which you have much to learn. Embracing the concept of learning every day keeps life interesting.
