Today, February 5th, kicks off Freelance Writers Appreciation Week. This week we take notice of how freelance writers contribute to our lives through their words.
People take it for granted they will be able to find an article about a particular financial topic. They can easily find a blog post giving them ideas for preparing a meal or conducting a job search. They can enjoy a book or magazine during their lunch hour. Freelance writers make much of this possible.
Freelance writers have been around for years, long before the internet. Many have contributed their work in the form of books and articles for years as ghostwriters. Their satisfaction does not come in the form of audience recognition, but rather in the knowledge that they gave a reader pleasure during an hour of reading, or some points to consider in making a crucial decision. Their reward is not to see their name in lights. The reward is contributing to the literary world. Freelance writers are paid for this work, of course, but many live paycheck-to-paycheck. The motivation is performing a job they love, not monetary wealth.
If you have hired a freelance writer for a blog, magazine, book, etc., this week consider providing a helpful review or recommend them for further work. If you are a freelance writer, know that your work does have influence.
This week, we celebrate the importance of writing.
