Today, February 14th, is of course Valentine’s Day. Couples will celebrate in a variety of ways. Some have special meals planned at a favorite restaurant. Some may take a day trip someplace. Others may enjoy a romantic evening at home.
On the flip side, there are those of us who are single. There is no special person to accompany us on a romantic night. However, we do have something to celebrate. Today is also National Call in Single Day.
Not having a life partner is okay. Being single is not a disease to get over. It is simply a situation in life, and one which we can enjoy. We still have family and friends with whom to share the joys and sorrows in life. We can enjoy a nice dinner out with friends or enjoy a little time to ourselves. There is no law saying you cannot enjoy a quiet evening with soft music by candlelight unless you have a date. Perhaps such an evening by yourself is just what you need to forget the stress of the week.
I am happy for anyone who has found a special someone with whom to share their life. A partner who also shares memories of the peaks and valleys of a lifetime should be treasured. If in the future I ever found such a person for my life, that would be great. Being single, though, has provided me with the freedom to make life decisions, such as job choices, without the fear of impacting another person.
If you are blessed to have a special someone in your life today, I hope you enjoy time together this Valentine’s Day. If you are single, I hope you enjoy today as well. Spend some special time with other single friends or treat yourself to a little alone time away from the pressures of life.
