Today, April 24th, the Wednesday of the last full week of April, is Administrative Professionals Day. Today we celebrate all those in administrative roles that help companies move forward.
There are a wide range of roles that fall within the administrative umbrella. There are human resource administrators, receptionists, office managers, legal secretaries, etc. While the roles are all quite different, they all have the goal of working through administrative tasks to help the organization pursue their goals. An office manager will help manage various office tasks, so the software developers can focus on their work, for example. Administrators are important to a company’s success.
Members of the administrative profession bring with them a wide range of skills, fine tuned for the specific industry they serve. Those working in the legal profession will have an understanding of legal terminology, whereas one working in a medical office will have a better understanding of medical terminology. The roles will all require some degree of computer training, but further training to specialize in an industry, and for a particular organization, will help the administrator perform with efficiency.
An administrator who excels in their job may run the risk of not being noticed. If they are able to run things smoothly, others may not recognize the problems that have been avoided thanks to that person’s due diligence in their work. Today, we recognize that these people are essential for organizations to continue servicing their customers and meeting their goals.
A number of organizations will hold events today to show their appreciation for administrators. Do not forget to offer a little word of thanks to that office manager on your floor, or to that receptionist greeting everyone as they come into the office each morning. Consider bringing a cup of coffee to the secretary in the office or taking the administrative assistant out for lunch. Just a small gesture of showing thanks can go a long way to help a fellow coworker get through the work week.
