Today, July 1st, we are halfway through the year.
This is an excellent opportunity to pull out that list of New Year resolutions and review your progress. Are there any of those goals complete? Congratulations! Are there any on that list that is right on track? Excellent job! You can feel confident you are right where you had planned to be and keep up the pace. Reward yourself with a small treat to celebrate.
Perhaps, after reviewing that list, you are finding gaps. There may be goals on that list that are partially achieved. You’ve taken some courses toward that certification, but you still have some more work to do. You have started to explore opportunities in a different industry, but you have more researching to do before deciding on a change in career direction. That goal to exercise more is a little off track, but you are still making some progress. That’s okay! Use this time to reassess the goal. Decide whether you will adjust to still meet that goal by the original deadline or adjust the deadline to something more realistic. Still, celebrate that you have made some progress, even if you have fallen a little behind.
Now, you may be looking at that list and finding a goal or two which never got off the ground. It never left the paper. If you do find that, don’t be discouraged. Use today as a clean slate. Review that goal again. Perhaps you haven’t started it because something else with higher importance got in the way. If that’s the case, just accept that priorities have changed. Should that goal remain in the books for this year, or should you push it out to some other point in the future? Consider if that goal should even remain a goal. However, don’t be too quick to eliminate this goal altogether. After all, you wanted to meet this goal at some point earlier this year. Really consider the reasoning to scratch it off the list. Perhaps eliminating it is the right decision for you but just don’t rush into that decision without careful thought.
We all work at different paces in our lives. Some people achieve education goals at record pace, while others may take a decade. Some people seem to meet their career goals with ease, while others struggle. Remember, this isn’t a competition. Find the pace that works for you, not the one that fits those around you.
Today, we are halfway through the year. Review your goals for the year and make any necessary changes that are right for you. When December 31st comes around, what accomplishments do you want to celebrate at that time?
